The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is a global organization of over 31,000 members that serves to link together professionals, educators, and students of the aerospace industry.
Each year, AIAA sponsors a large number of technical conferences and student competitions across the nation; it also publishes a variety of books — including the AIAA Education Series of textbooks — and nine research journals.
Organizationally, AIAA is composed of seven regional offices, sixty-four local sections, and over 160 student branches. You can find more information here.
Show up! It's just that easy. Taking part in the UCLA student branch is free , allowing you access to general meetings and activities on campus. However, to be counted as an official member of the UCLA Branch, we encourage that everyone also join AIAA national as student members.
Once you receive your AIAA national membership, there remains one last step before you can count yourself as a Branch member: tell us! Just fill out this membership form and return it to us. You can either print it out and hand it to a Branch officer at a general meeting or e-mail it to the Branch Internal Vice-Chair.
Once you have been recorded as a Branch member, look for your name to appear on our member sign-in sheets at general meetings. Be sure to sign in to maintain your status as an active member!

FYI
Careers in aerospace are not limited to just aerospace engineers. For example, NASA employs astronomers, business managers, biologists, doctors, software & hardware engineers, test pilots, physicists, publicists, and people of many other professions needed to carry out their missions.
We host everything from professional guest speakers, tours of industry facilities, career sessions with recruiters, assorted engineering projects, and the Design/Build/Fly competition. For details of upcoming events, check out the calendar.
The Design/Build/Fly competition is an annual student competition sponsored by the AIAA Foundation, the Cessna Aircraft Company, and the Office of Naval Research. Each year, UCLA AIAA sponsors a team entering the competition. This contest requires student teams to design, build, and fly a remote controlled aircraft that best complete specific flight missions given each year. For more information, check out our previous projects.
Absolutely! We are more than willing to lend a helping hand to all self-starters. Whether it is your own project or one of AIAA's numerous student competitions, tell us your ideas, and together we'll get things started.
As with all things, it depends on how much you want to do. Many of us have spent countless hours on past projects, but we also offer activities for members who simply enjoy attending our general meetings and events.
We like to think so. |
